The portfolio requirements for Slide Room are:
- 20 still images in .jpg format, not to exceed 5mb each in file size
- Application portfolios will be viewed on a 1280 x 800 resolution screen. Files should be sized approximately 1280 x 800 pixels at a resolution of 72 dpi.
- Writing Sample: Applicants are also required to submit a typed writing sample between 500 and 1,000 words long. Content is at the discretion of the applicant.
- Additional Skills: Applicants should be proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

- Your personal statement is your chance to tell us why we should want you as a student; we will want to know why you are interested in the course that you have applied to, key influences on your work and what you hope to do after your studies. - Entry Requirements
All applications to courses are assessed against the course entry requirements and criteria, irrespective of age. Applicants are considered on a case by case basis and by their ability and readiness for university study.
- Interviews and Portfolios
The majority of our courses will expect to see a portfolio at interview. Please make sure that you have read the portfolio guidelines before attending interview so you are fully prepared.
- As a general guide, portfolios should contain examples of work (both finished and work in progress) that showcase your particular skills and interests. The content of a portfolio should be presented in a logical, ordered and simple fashion
- However due to the high number of applications on our most popular courses we are unable to interview every applicant. There is a selection process which is based on your UCAS application so please ensure that you have entered your qualifications and that your personal statement is directed at the course to which you are making an application.
- If you are selected for interview it is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your commitment and self motivation to a chosen area of study; to discuss aspects of the course and to ask any questions that you may have about AUB.
- If are invited to interview, this will form part of the selection process in addition to your portfolio and qualifications for deciding whether or not we can offer you a place. Interviews normally take place between January and April and we try to give you at least 10 days notice.
- If you have already applied and have been invited to an interview, please log in to the applicant portal to view important interview information.
- We realise that it may not be possible for some EU or International applicants to attend an interview. Initially your application will be assessed on your application form and your portfolio. EU and International applicants will be required to submit a portfolio of work. - Statement of purpose (500-750 word): overview of the applicant’s academic and professional accomplishments and should demonstrate a high level of interest in and a highly developed understanding of the discipline. The applicant should describe knowledge of the discipline, approach to past work, qualifications for graduate study and intended focus, as well as personal and professional goals.
- Resume: educational credentials as well as professional and other employment such as internships or field experience in the intended area of graduate study, and should list commissioned works, exhibitions, performances, publications, honors, memberships, interests and activities, including volunteer work.

Portfolio
The portfolio should be specific to the intended course of study, should represent the applicant’s best work examples and should demonstrate a high level of craft presented as professionally as possible. The portfolio, audition or writing submission is scored according to a rubric relevant to the intended course of study and type of submission.

- A portfolio of 12-16 pieces must demonstrate a proficiency in a range of mediums.
- It must be composed of 6-8 finished pieces (full color and black-and-white), which demonstrate an interest in, and a commitment to, illustrative problem-solving; these finished pieces must reflect real industry assignments.
- In addition to the finished pieces, the portfolio must include 3-4 pieces of illustration process work (preliminary work, such as conceptual/formal studies, which resulted in the final work in the portfolio).
- The portfolio must include 3-4 drawings from life-drawing classes and/or direct observation, as well as work from a personal sketchbook or journal. Work should be submitted in digital format (PowerPoint, PDF or PS Web gallery preferred), preferably using SlideRoom.

Portfolio:
- A portfolio of visual work is required from all applicants to Illustration Practice (MFA). This portfolio may consist of professional and/or student illustration work, or visual work produced in another discipline.
- Please compile a portfolio that displays your strengths as well as creative interests. Work-in-progress and collaborative works may also be included with appropriate and explanatory credits for all involved.
- A portfolio of writing may also be considered (submitted in .pdf format in the portfolio upload section of mica.slideroom.com). Applicants should submit a portfolio of 18-20 images (time-based work may also be submitted) via mica.slideroom.com.

Portfolio:
- A graduate portfolio consists of 20 pieces of original art. As a whole, it should provide a clear representation of your processes of thinking, implementation of concepts, and studio production.
- Your artwork should support your purpose in beginning graduate studies in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. For the Admissions Committee, the portfolio is the equivalent of the entrance examinations that other academic areas often require.
