This week five Ashcan students took a tour of Parsons – The New School for Design. When we arrived, Katie who is a senior at Parsons welcomed us. She showed the students several different departments as well as the recently opened ultra-modern University Hall on 13th street.
The tour started at the Parson’s Welcome Center where we got information materials about the school. Then we headed to Sheila C. Johnson Design Center and Katie showed us the computer room and the fashion and printmaking department. Katie advised us that it is important to do internships because it’s where students gain practical knowledge as well as new contacts. We also saw an exhibition of first year foundation student work. Katie explained that Parsons’s foundation curriculum was designed for a variety of different paths in art and design. Lastly, she brought us to the large bright library and the newly renovated auditorium. After the tour Ashcan students showed their gratitude for taking part of another informative college tour offered through Ashcan.
