ART in SEQUENCE – making Triptychs & Polyptychs for your Art Portfolio

In Ashcans Portfolio Prep classes we often have students make work in a series, that are to be used as one piece for their art portfolio.

A common word in art is the word triptych, a polyptych POL-ip-tik is a painting which is divided into sections, or panels.

A triptych is a three-part work, and a polyptych has more.

Here are some Ashcan Studio student examples where they made a series or paintings drawing, designs or sculptures that were used together as one piece for their accepted Art Portfolios.

You can use a triptych or polyptych to:
– Give the art a narrative in the beginning, middle, and end of a story.
-To continue a theme along each of the pieces.
– To examine a subject from multiple perspectives or with varying techniques and mediums.
– To show the progression of a subject, such as its growth or decline.
– To showcase separate elements that are related and complement each other.
