Our Summer Intensive Program is designed for all Ashcan students who wish to apply to colleges the following Fall/Winter (for admittance in the Fall of the following year). During the school year, high school and college students rightly must focus most of their time on their school work and so have limited time to dedicate to their portfolio.
The Summer Intensive allows students to give their portfolio the necessary time and attention to develop to its highest quality. In addition, the summer at Ashcan is a focused, nurturing, and ambitious community of art students whose success influences one another. The daily art practice in a summer dedicated to the portfolio has been a huge element in the outstanding achievements of Ashcan’s students, allowing their portfolios to stand out so well to college recruiters.
Art Portfolio Prep. Intensive – Digital Art
Need help with building your professional digital portfolio? Intensive Portfolio Course is structured to assist students who are building a full body of portfolio for job search or school admissions in the competitive digital entertainment industry. This is an intensive course that requires students to work on self-study hours along with the class hours and is tailored to coincide with the student’s own stories and ideas in any area of the digital art industry they seek.

Fine Art Portfolio
Grade 11 – Up
Drawing & Painting / Figure Drawing / Sculpture / Illustration
Your portfolio of artwork is evidence of your artistic skills and concepts. A good portfolio is an indication to schools that you are a creative and talented student who will work hard and be successful. The Ashcan Studio Portfolio Preparation is an eight-week long program for students who wish to enter the foundation year of a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree program or a Masters in Fine Arts program (MFA). Under the guidance of Ashcan Art’s instructors, students will participate in studio work, producing cohesive series of artworks using conventional and unconventional material in innovative ways.
Variety of subject matter, tailored to your skills and interests: figure drawings, still-lives, self-portraits, landscapes, narrative, drawings, paintings, sculptures, mixed media, printmaking and more.
College Portfolio Prep. – Drawing & Painting
In the Fine Art Portfolio course, students will create fundamental portfolio pieces such as Figure Drawing, Still-life, Self-Portrait, Landscape, and more, which will be the base of any art school portfolio requirement. Regardless of the major, these observational artworks are required for most art colleges. Students will be trained in a variety of subject matter in a wide range of mediums and will be guided to create works that bring out each student’s unique personal characteristics. Students can also extend into deeper learning of fine art subjects, including sculptures, installation, printmaking, and more.

College Portfolio Prep. – Figure Drawing
Students will learn the basic foundation of human anatomy, proportion, and gesture drawing in different materials. Required for all portfolios regardless of the major.

College Portfolio Prep. – Sculpture
Ashcan’s Portfolio Preparation program helps students develop a unique and coherent body of work that is essential to the pursuit of higher studies. Students get individualized attention from instructors to focus on personal projects and help them with creative thinking. They learn how to develop their ideas in three-dimensional media, and may at times create works that combine both two and three-dimensional pieces. The curriculum culminates in the completion of a series of sculptures that display formal and conceptual maturity.

Design Portfolio
Grade 11 – Up
Graphic Design / Architecture / Fashion Illustration / Fashion Design
Art Colleges look for distinct qualities and passion from students who are applying for visual design majors. Design Portfolio Course will help students how to build a strong, cohesive major-specific portfolio that meets each school’s criteria. Instructors will guide the students from concept building to final design for different majors.
Start your own design and watch it come to life in 3d model making, garment making, print, or more, with the help of an expert in our Design Portfolio course. Develop an idea, transition into the final piece (concept to final piece).
Branding Design, typography, Interactive Design, App Design, Fashion Design, Architecture Design, developing art style, explore different materials and topics, cohesive theme.
College Portfolio Prep. – Graphic Design
Ashcan’s Portfolio Preparation program helps students develop a unique and coherent body of work that is essential to the pursuit of higher studies. Students get personal attention from instructors to focus on personal projects and creative thinking. Here they will learn how to develop their ideas in the design communication process including conceptualization, creative processes, typography, and technology. Students will gain skills in digital Illustration, with the help of programs like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, to create high-quality art portfolios.

Students will focus on Architectural projects to understand the three-dimensional structure and space while sharpening their sense of perspective and spatial perception.

Starting with model proportion and gesture drawing, students will visually present their ideas in traditional sketches and illustrations using drawing tools. They will also learn how to pick and add swatches connecting their concepts.

Digital Art Portfolio

Game Concept Design / Character Design / Manga & Comics / Digital Illustration / Animation
Thinking of applying to your dream school, or to that dream job? Our individualized Digital Art Portfolio course guides students through the process of developing a competitive portfolio for top art schools and jobs in the games industry. This course covers all areas of design and is tailored to coincide with the individual’s own story and ideas.
Students will gain insight into the entertainment art industry while working with digital software such as Photoshop, Procreate, and more. They will be also trained on how to visualize the original concepts into a finished art form.
This course is for students with basic knowledge of how to use digital tools. Students will create digital artworks including; Keyframe illustrations, storyboards, digital portrait, environment design, character design, and more.
Art Portfolio Prep. – Digital Game Concept Design
Students will begin their portfolio development by brainstorming an original story. They then begin designing characters, creatures, props, and environments, as well as storyboards. They will receive direction and mentorship from their instructors and will have short presentations throughout the class to show their progress.

Art Portfolio Prep. – Digital Character Design
In this highly individualized course, students will be guided through step by step of creating appealing characters with depth and personality. Students will be trained in drawing a successful figure with fluent anatomy in dynamic poses, garment and prop design. The goal of this course is to create a quality character turnaround sheet.

Art Portfolio Prep. – Digital Manga & Comics
The Ashcan Manga & Comic Portfolio course is highly individualized and offers a structured timetable for students to acquire fundamental knowledge and skills as digital and traditional comic artists. This course covers skills from our foundations to publishing for digital/traditional comic arts with a strong focus on the advanced technical skill set and world-building. Students will organize a full-body portfolio on their final session for publishing.

Art Portfolio Prep. – Digital Illustration
The Ashcan Digital Illustration Portfolio course guides students in using digital tools as storytelling. The goal of the course is to create a full body of illustration works portraying each student’s interests in narrative or style and explore the personal theme as an artist by utilizing drawing software.

SVA Transfer
Our 1+3 program is specially designed for transfer students. In this program, students can earn college credits at Ashcan Art while completing their portfolio. We currently have a transfer credit agreement with the School of Visual Arts, in New York City.

School of Visual Art ‘1 +3’ Program
Our 1+3 program is specially designed for transfer students. In this program, students can earn college credits at Ashcan Studio while completing their portfolios. We currently have a transfer credit agreement with the School of Visual Arts, in New York City.
The School of Visual Arts is widely recognized as one of the finest schools in the country, for its innovative and experimental program philosophies, its participation in the cultural life of New York City, and the accessibility it offers to its unparalleled faculty of professional artists.
In a transfer credit agreement with the School of Visual Arts, students at Ashcan Art may earn course credits that are transferrable to SVA. Students must be registered for their 3rd semester (2nd year). In this program, students may earn credits equivalent to one year of education at SVA, as long as they continue their undergraduate studies at SVA in one of the following five majors: Fine Arts, Cartooning, Design, Illustration, or Advertising.
Students can earn up to eighteen credits at Ashcan Studio, in Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, and Design.
